Introduction

Approximately 40% of enrolled students at SBCC have indicated that their goal is to transfer to a four-year university. Although these students know they want to transfer, they are not always knowledgeable about the transfer process and often rely on anecdotal information that is interpreted as policy. Other students enter SBCC with no thought of transfer but later identify transfer as a goal for a variety of reasons. The Transfer Center at Santa Barbara City College is both a counseling and information center designed to offer assistance to SBCC students. In addition to transfer information, the center provides a variety of programs and services designed to assists students with making their transfer goal a reality.

Lesson Goal:
The SBCC Transfer Center assists all students wishing to transfer in identifying the college of their choice and the requirements for a successful transfer curriculum.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson you will be able to:

    1. Identify Transfer Center services and programs that are available to assist students successfully transfer to four-year colleges and universities

    2. Provide assistance to students in understanding how the use of Articulation Agreements can enable students to fulfill lower division requirements at SBCC prior to transfer

    3. Be familiar with the special services available to UCSB bound students

    4. Explain how low-income, 1st generation students can receive additional assistance in meeting their transfer goals.

    5. Identify web sites that are used to assist students in gaining transfer information
