Incorporating A Career Center Assignment in the Syllabus

Introduction

Students who have established educational and career goals have demonstrated that they are a great deal more likely to persist with their education and improve their academic performance. The purpose of this section is to provide you with an assignment that can be used by your students to assist them in establishing educational and career goals as well understanding the relationship between their education and their future.

The goal of this lesson is to integrate into the classroom syllabus an assignment on how to use the Career Center.


Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

  1. Understand how the Career Center can assist you in incorporating career development assignments into your curriculum

  2. Introduce careers in your academic discipline through research that can be conducted through the Career Center

  3. Connect your students to local professionals who are working in different careers and conduct an information interview

  4. Access the career development and educational planning exercise that have been prepared for you and modify it to meet your class assignments
