Building Assignments

The assignment that we have included in this lesson can be modified in any manner that best fits your curriculum. There are many different classes that are including career development exercises as part of their assignments. These assignments are available through the Career Center.

  • The Career Center staff can assist you in any manner that you deem necessary. The career counselors normally are available to assist students and to sign off on sections of the assignment where you want verification that the assignment was completed and correct.

  • Faculty have designed many different types of assignments. They are often tied to the academic content of a particular course. Another approach is to assign research on the career field that most closely aligns with the department or course.

  • A more active approach is to assign students to interview individuals who are involved in the career areas that are closely aligned with the curriculum content. The students then write and submit a paper based on what they learned from their field interviews. The Career Center staff can help the student identify organizations and individuals who would be likely candidates for the interviews.

I hope that this has given you some ideas and ways of assisting and involving your students in career related assignments. The following section will give you a sample lesson.
