Introduction

Paulsen (1995) has defined computer-mediated communication (CMC) as the "transmission and reception of messages using computer as input, storage, output and routing devices. CMC includes information retrieval, electronic mail, bulletin boards and computer conferencing." This lesson introduces faculty to computer mediated communication. This lesson will provide an overview of CMC and introduce some literature on different pedagogical techniques for online interaction.
