Check out a closed captioned video from the Learning
Resource Center. Locate a T.V. in the center and ask how you
might turn on the captions so they are available to a student
who is deaf in your classroom. If staff is unable to assist

a demonstration.

Come to the DSP&S department to see an accessible
table and how it can be adapted to student needs.
Come to the Assistive Technology lab to see a
demonstration on screen enlargement, text-to-speech, Closed
Circuit Television, speech recognition and other software.
Use Internet Explorer to enlarge the Font
size while browsing a web page.
Click on the view command
Choose text size
Choose different size fonts to see how the
text is displayed on the screen.
Open up Microsoft Word. Put away your mouse and
navigate the screen with keyboard shortcuts.
On a PC:
Press alt+ F to open the file command
Press P for Print command
Press tab key to move the focus of the cursor
within textboxes and on command buttons. Now focus the cursor
in the "Print what" textbox.
Press the down arrow to open the drop down
list.
Navigate the list with the up and down arrow.
Press Esc key to quit.
Tab to the cancel button to close the dialog
box.
Note:
You have just experienced how a user who is blind navigates
the screen with keyboard shortcuts. A student would also
use a screen reader to "hear" where the cursor
is located on the screen!
