How much do think communicating
with your textbook representatives re: accessibility, affects
the learning outcomes for students in your courses?
I have no influence on a publisher's final
textbook format.
I can at least discuss the types of students
who might take my class.
I could ask the representative if the textbook
comes with a CDROM and see if it is navigable with a screen
reader.
I could ask if the publisher has companion
websites with the textbook and if those pages are accessible.
I can ask if the websites have video clips
and if so, are they closed-captioned.
If not, are there text transcripts for students
to download.
I can ask if the web sites have power point
presentations.
If so, I can ask if they downloadable to
a student's individual station so they can use their assistive
technology to read information from the slides.
What do you consider to be the most valuable
or important concept/idea in this lesson? What remains unclear?
