PowerPoint Presentations

PowerPoint presentations have become a common way to present material, which combines text, visuals, and sound in an effective manner if used properly.

Key points to remember

  • Do not put too much text on the screen and keep the font at least 24 pt and preferably 32 pt or larger. It is better to use more slides and larger font.

  • Be careful not to use so much animation and sound that the primary message of the content is upstaged by the bells and whistles.

  • Use visual images as much as possible to appeal to the visual learner.

  • If you are presenting several points on a slide, consider dimming the old points in order to highlight the current points.

  • Save often and do not put too many slides (over 80-100) in one lesson. Create a link to another lesson if it is going longer.

  • You may also import files, pictures, movies, and sound into the PowerPoint to increase its effectiveness.

  • Though Mr. Edward DeLeon who presents the following PowerPoint Presentation on how to use PowerPoint prefers always beginning with a blank background, many users prefer one of the other template layouts provided by the program combining a standard heading text box and a variety of text and graphic configurations.
