Introduction

Giving students clear guidelines for writing assignments usually results in better student writing. The following are suggestions for structuring writing assignments followed by models of guidelines used for an argumentative essay, including an essay plan, student evaluation form and revision plan.

Provide faculty with a scaffolded writing assignment to illustrate one method of enabling their students to produce better writing.

  1. demonstrate how to break down writing assignments in order to make them more manageable for students

  2. provide faculty with a model writing assignment that can be tailored to suit their course goals

  3. enable faculty to discourage plagiarism more effectively
