Student Writing

Student underlining a textbook

  • Breaking down writing assignments into smaller parts, setting separatedates and assigning points for each part makes a writing assignment a more manageable task. The result is better papers and less plagiarism. (Note: Only the final paper must actually be graded.)

  • Utilize the Writing Lab. Provide the Writing Lab with a copy of the assignment and any special requirements/instructions. Encourage students to use the Writing Lab at any stage of the writing process.

  • Teach students about plagiarism so that they can avoid it. Refer to "Recognizing Plagiarism and Acknowledging Sources," pp. 494-498 in The New St. Martin's Handbook.
