The Faculty Teaching and Learning Seminar, established in fall 2001, will be offered again during the spring 2002 semester. The seminar demonstrates teaching pedagogy and supporting materials that promote effective teaching and student learning. Content for the course is drawn from an outstanding web site built and maintained by SBCC faculty. This web site, www.4sbccfaculty.org , is an extremely rich repository of teaching strategies shared by SBCC faculty, many of whom have exceptional expertise in their areas of specialization. Participating in the seminar is the best way

to explore the wealth of material on this web site. The seminar is delivered in a face to face format
on successive Fridays
(2 - 4 p.m., beginning February 1, 2002) and features many interactive activities which actively involve the participants in their own learning. Besides presenting a wealth of educational materials the seminar allows faculty to interact and share experiences and materials, resulting in the formation of a strong bond between the participants.

Faculty who would like to attend the entire seminar of twelve Fridays are eligible for a stipend, but those faculty who would rather attend specific lessons of interest are encouraged to do so on a voluntary basis.

Participant Comments

"All of the classes have added, in varying degrees, ideas that I have and will incorporate in my classes. In particular, I have implemented cooperative learning activities in my classes, and Margaret Prothero's wealth of ideas has inspired me to be more creative."

"I loved the presentations by Margaret Prothero; she got my creative juices flowing! I can't believe I am saying this, but I also will use the online syllabus maker with all of my classes,...I think it could be a resource for our department for getting syllabi online."

All Interested Faculty May Apply

If you are interested in attending the entire seminar please contact Jack Ullom as soon as possible at ullomj@sbcc.net . If you are interested in attending any of the following lessons or the entire seminar please fill out the tear off at the end of the schedule and put in Dr. Ullom's mailbox. Participants for the entire seminar (eligible for a $2,000 stipend) will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis.
